To decrease losses and increase performance of a turbine, we need to develop special (compound) geometries. Here’s your turbomachinery cheat sheet to advanced 3D blade design!
1. Optimizing plane profiling
There are several positive things that can give proper plane sections profiling: decreasing the profile losses, decreasing secondary losses and satisfying structural limitations.
2. Section stacking smoothness
You want to make sure the distribution of the angles, chord, and so on will be smooth throughout the blade.
3. Twist law
The positives to twist law: consdieration of spanwise parameters variation due to radial equilibrium, rotor tip leakage decreases, optimization of blade shape (structural).
4. Lean & sweep
Advantages to compound geometry: decrease in secondary losses, decrease stresses through airfoil height.
5. Checking the stresses
Some aspects to structural analysis include the average stress in blade, the average tangential stresses in lugs and local stresses.
